A major step towards decarbonisation

Champion Component, established in 2012, subsequently became a wholly owned subsidiary of CPE Tech Berhad in 2021. It mainly supports the CNC manufacturing activities of the group. In December 2023 our group successfully listed on Bursa Malaysia's Main Market. This naturally prompted us to adopt ESG practices and explore ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

We eventually proceeded with the solar project, not only because several parties approached us directly, but also because the board viewed it as a meaningful step and a significant milestone for the company. We started with Champion Component before considering a wider roll-out to our other manufacturing facilities.

During the preparation, the board received multiple proposals, and among them i2 Energy really stood out. Their proposal was clear, practical and tailored to our needs. More importantly, their team demonstrated deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of our business operations, which gave us the confidence to move forward with them as our solar partner.

Many of our international clients place strong emphasis on ESG goals. Meeting these standards can often be a deciding factor in whether they choose to do business with us. By adopting solar energy, we are directly aligning with their sustainability expectations, thereby enhancing our brand reputation. At the same time, the project reduces increasing energy costs and contributes meaningfully to the environment and the wider community, making it both a smart business move and a responsible one.

Looking ahead, this solar project plays a key role in our long-term sustainability strategy. It reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility by reducing our reliance on coal-based energy. With the support of i2 Energy, we are confident in scaling this initiative further and expanding solar adoption across all of our facilities as part of our decarbonisation journey.
