Film transcript
KYM Holdings is a public-listed company established in 1986, with nearly 40 years of experience in paper packaging solutions. We specialise in the manufacture of corrugated carton boxes, industrial paper sacks and F&B boxes across Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
We are proud to be one of the few companies in Malaysia producing sustainable packaging locally. Since our operations rely heavily on electricity to power production, we started exploring ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce our environmental impact. That is when solar energy came into the picture. Investing in solar aligns with our sustainability goals as we continue to improve energy efficiency across all facilities and adopt greener technologies.
When we began exploring solar energy partners, i2 Energy stood out for their clear understanding of our needs and their commitment to providing the right solution. They also provided comprehensive support throughout the process, which was especially valuable since we don't have an in-house technical team to execute, maintain and monitor. Since the installation, we have achieved significant utility cost reductions at our Tapah and Beranang facilities.
A large portion of our electricity is used to power our manufacturing processes, so incorporating solar energy makes a significant difference. The solar system has helped us offset conventional electricity usage, which strengthens our operational resilience. Beyond that, it supports our long-term ESG goals by lowering emissions and moving toward a more sustainable model.
With these positive results, we are committed to expanding our solar initiatives and exploring other energy efficiency solutions, investing not just in cost savings but in a greater future for generations to come.

More on the way

i2 Energy designed and delivered rooftop solar for KYM, a public listed packaging manufacturer with nearly 40 years in the business. The system offsets a major share of the electricity that powers KYM's production and has already cut utility costs at its Tapah and Beranang facilities.
The challenge
KYM has been making paper packaging since 1986, and across nearly four decades it has grown into one of the few manufacturers producing sustainable packaging locally, supplying corrugated carton boxes, industrial paper sacks and food and beverage boxes across Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. That output is demanding to run. Producing corrugated and industrial packaging draws heavily on electricity, and a large share of the company's operating footprint comes straight from the power its lines consume.
As the business set out to improve energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impact, two pressures met in the same place. Climbing electricity use was both a cost on the books and a growing part of the company's carbon footprint, and KYM wanted to tackle both without slowing production or compromising the quality its customers rely on. There was a practical hurdle too. KYM does not run an in-house technical team to design, execute, maintain and monitor a solar system, so any solution had to arrive with genuine support from end to end rather than hardware alone. The company needed a partner that understood the realities of manufacturing and could carry the technical load on its behalf.
The results
When KYM began looking for a solar partner, i2 Energy stood out for clearly understanding what the business needed and committing to the right solution rather than an off-the-shelf one. Just as important, i2 Energy provided support across the whole project, from design through to maintenance and monitoring, which mattered a great deal to a company without its own technical team to lean on.
Since the system went live, KYM has achieved significant utility cost reductions at its Tapah and Beranang facilities. Because so much of its electricity goes into the manufacturing process itself, offsetting conventional grid power with solar makes a real difference to both running costs and resilience, leaving the company less exposed to grid pricing and better able to keep production steady.
The gains reach beyond the balance sheet. Generating clean energy on site lowers KYM's emissions and moves it toward a more sustainable operating model, reinforcing its long-term ESG goals. Encouraged by these results, KYM plans to expand its solar initiatives and explore further energy efficiency measures, treating the investment not only as savings today but as a contribution to a better future for generations to come.
i2 Energy stood out for their clear understanding of our needs and their commitment to the right solution, with comprehensive support throughout, which was especially valuable since we don't have an in-house technical team.
